Artist's Comments

[June 3, 2006] This drawing is quite old now. I drew it back in 2004 to practice my pencil skills. It's a fanart drawing of Vivi, the little black mage in Final Fantasy IX. A reference picture was used.
Thanks for viewing.

[December 12, 2006 - Update] My war against white backgrounds continues. I'm a racist you say? Only when it comes to backgrounds.

this must be one of the most incredible artwork on deviantart ever. how's you get the backround in that color? i need your technique =)

I looked at a picture while drawing this, so it's not really that great, but I'm glad you think it's good. ^^
Adding the background is actually quite simple. To make the background, I just scanned a dirty sheet of paper into Photoshop and messed around with some filters and tinted it to get the look I wanted. Then I dragged the scanned drawing over the background as a separate layer. Then I set the layer with the drawing on it to 'Linear Burn'.
You should try playing around with different kinds of settings like that. Maybe you'll find an even better looking technique. :]

aha, so you've used photoshop? i really need to start working with that program i think ^^
i hope that i'll someday will be able to make an paper look that old withput any program, soaking it in a good mixture of coffe and such.
many thanks, and again, great art =)

Doesn't have to be much more "high-tech" than this to be good mate, I dig this!

Not really the work I'm most proud of now, given it's age, but thanks. :]
